Prossy

Prossy is a diminutive of Proscovia, mainly used in Uganda. Proscovia is itself believed to be related to Praskovya, the Russian form of Paraskeve, which comes from Greek paraskeue meaning “preparation” or “Friday.” This name is associated with a 2nd-century saint martyred in Rome.

In Uganda, Prossy is a common given name. Notable bearers include Prossy Akampurira (born 1987), a Ugandan politician, and Prossy Tusabe, a Ugandan swimmer. Outside Uganda, the name has also served as a nickname for Priscilla Hiss.
