The Welsh variant of Maximus. Magnus Maximus (known as Macsen Wledig in Welsh) was a 4th-century co-ruler of the Western Roman Empire. In Wales, he was regarded as the founder of several royal lineages. He appears in the medieval Welsh tale The Dream of Macsen.
