Meaning & Origin
Phobus is a Latinized form of Phobos, the Greek mythological personification of fear and panic. The name is derived from the Greek word φόβος (phobos) meaning "fear, panic". In Greek mythology, Phobos was one of the sons of Ares, the god of war, and he often accompanied his father into battle, spreading terror among the enemy. Phobus, as a masculine name, is extremely rare in modern usage but appears in works of classical literature and astronomy—for instance, one of the two moons of Mars is named Phobos.
