The reconstructed name is composed of the elements gunþ- (meaning “war, battle”) and -hariaz (meaning “army, warrior”), yielding the sense of “battle warrior” or “war commander.” As a philological reconstruction based on comparative Germanic linguistics, it does not appear in any historical records but serves as the theoretical root for several medieval Germanic names.
